Who We Are

Innovative Angling was founded by Mike Komara, a two time Youth and one time Senior World Fly Fishing Championship team medalist. Innovative Angling’s mission is to share the skills and techniques Mike has learned in over a decade of competing and fishing across the globe. An Innovative Angling guided fly fishing experience is unlike any other. With us, you’ll not only experience what Pennsylvania has to offer and catch plenty of fish, but also learn the skills you need to go home and catch even more on your own. We specialize in euro nymphing/tightline nymphing  tactics, but we can teach you any aspect of the fly fishing game you want to learn, or just go catch fish until your arm gets tired!

Guided Trips

Pennsylvania has over 85,000 miles of rivers and streams, many of which are world class fisheries. We’ve explored these waters more than most, and found some of the best spots you could ever want for trout, bass, musky, and more. We offer a number of different trips to explore these waters and learn the tactics to fish them. Regardless of age, ability, or skill level, we’ll make sure you catch plenty of fish and learn even more.

What makes us different? At Innovative angling, we have over fifteen years of experience fishing the world for everything that swims, as well as over a decade competing with the U.S. Youth and Senior Fly Fishing Teams. Because of this background, we approach fishing and guiding in a unique way, focusing on education but prioritizing fun. You won’t find anyone more exited to see you succeed on the water!

Testimonials

"I had a great time fishing with Mike! I signed up for a lesson prior to my first ever fly fishing competition and he helped me out a ton. By the end of the day, I was a lot more efficient with my casting and getting in contact with my flies way earlier in the drift."

"My eight year old grandson had the opportunity to go on a full day excursion with Mike and had a fantastic experience! Mike was exceptionally attentive, encouraging, and patient with my young, beginner fly fisherman. When he caught his first trout, Mike was just as excited as he was and took plenty of great pictures!"

Where We Guide

We run guide trips on all the famous Central Pennsylvania limestoners and South Central Pa/Cumberland Valley spring creeks, as well as some of the larger freestone rivers in between. You can find some of our favorite waters below: Spring Creek, Big Fishing Creek, Penn’s Creek, The Little Juniata, The Letort, Big Spring Creek, Kish Creek, and the Yellow Breeches. We also guide a few secret rivers that you’ll just have to book a trip to find out about!

Articles

On of the best things about fly fishing is that it’s a dynamic sport. It’s always growing and changing, and no matter how far we progress in our fishing journey, there’s always something new to learn.

We all approach the sport in our own way, follow our own path, and learn different things along the way. The articles on this site are about the tools, tactics, and stories from my journey as a competitive angler and global fisherman. These are the types of articles I wish I had to learn from when I started fishing, and I hope you’ll enjoy reading them as much as I’ve enjoyed writing them.
