Who We Are
Innovative Angling was founded by four-time World Fly Fishing Championship team medalist Mike Komara. We are a guide service based in Central Pennsylvania, but hope to educate anglers worldwide through our media and events.
Our mission is to share the skills and techniques learned over a decade of competing and fishing across the globe. An Innovative Angling guided fly fishing trip is unlike any other. With us, you’ll not only experience Pennsylvania’s best waters and catch fish until your arm gets tired, but also learn the skills you need to continue improving on your own.
Join us for a guided trip, clinic, or virtual lesson and take your fly fishing skills and know-how to a whole new level!
Guided Trips
Pennsylvania has over 85,000 miles of rivers and streams, many of which offer world class fly fishing. At Innovative Angling, we’ve spent years exploring these creeks and rivers to find the best places to go for trout, bass, and musky. We offer single and multi-day walk & wade or float trips to explore these waters and learn the skills to fish them. Regardless of age, ability, or skill level, we’ll make sure you catch plenty of fish and learn even more.
What makes us different? At Innovative Angling, we have over fifteen years of experience fly fishing the world for everything that swims, as well as over a decade competing with the U.S. Youth and Senior Fly Fishing Teams. We approach fishing and guiding in a unique way, focusing on education but prioritizing fun. You won’t find a guide in Pennsylvania more excited to see you succeed on the water!
Testimonials
Colton CorellaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I recently had an opportunity to fish with Mike, the wealth of knowledge he possesses is beyond me. His ability to teach and fix issues within your fly fishing game is incredible, no matter the creek, river, or stream Mike will always teach you more than what you knew going into that day. The most noticeable factor he improved of mine was the ability to cast light nymphs, and fish them effectively. I have euro nymphed for about 9 months yet I learned double of what I knew in 8 hours with Mike. leighs522Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Had a really good day with Mike on a central PA stream. He is an excellent guide and teacher, especially around tight line techniques. He not only can show you how to do things, but the why behind them, so you can understand the process and further improve after your trip is over. With many years of elite level competition angling experience Mike can help hone in and refine your skills in a way most guides could only hope to do. Money well spent, thanks for everything, Mike! jason detarTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My son and I recently had the opportunity to fish with Mike. He is an excellent angler and instructor. Mike shared valuable knowledge on nymphing and dry fly tactics that have already improved our skills. We really enjoyed learning from Mike and recommend spending a day with him to elevate your game! Jill GontkovicTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great to have knowledgeable, thorough guidance from a member of the USA fly fishing team. Mike meets you where you are at in your experience level and tailors his instruction from there, making sure you get the most out of your time and practice. We learned a lot, refined our skills, and tried new techniques, resulting in a worthwhile session. We will be booking again! Scott AsbillTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Mike is a fishy guy in the best way: he just loves to fish and help others catch fish. Whether you're new to fly fishing or have years of experience, Mike has the knowledge and patience to meet you where you are. From streamer fishing to euro nymphing to dry flies, he’s excellent across the board. From my experience it is common that those who excel at doing are sometimes not the best teachers. In rare occasions you will find someone who is good at doing (Mike is a world class fly fisherman) and is also a good teacher. I had a great day on the water with him and learned a lot. Looking forward to getting back out there with him again. Highly recommend. Jason PiccolaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Went on my first guiding trip with Mike this past weekend. It was an outstanding experience. I treat my guided trips like "classroom" sessions. I took away many new techniques and strategies as well as refined some existing skills. Mike is a great guide and instructor. He breaks down concepts in multiple ways enabling you to learn fast and effectively. While catching 45 fish is always fun, walking away with fly fishing knowledge is priceless. Looking forward to my next trip out with Mike. Benjamin SaksTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I fished with Mike on a float trip. He’s a very professional guide and his experience with contact/euro nymphing tactics is very deep. He’s an experienced competitive fly fisher and those skills translate well into teaching others. He is patient and willing to go the extra mile to make sure I had a great time on the water. If you’re looking to sharpen your skills, or just catch a bunch of fish and have a great time - Mike is the guy. He’s a pretty fishy dude. I recently had a Zoom training session with Mike, a world-class fly fisherman and member of Team USA, and it was an absolutely invaluable experience. Mike provided incredibly instructive and specific guidance tailored precisely to my current skill level and fly fishing needs. This one-on-one, off-water session was a fantastic way to delve into tactics and preparation for the water. For me, the major value was getting answers to specific problems facing in the water. If you're looking to elevate your understanding and approach to fly fishing, I highly recommend a session with Mike!Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
