Who We Are
Innovative Angling
Founded in 2024 by Mike Komara, Innovative Angling is a Pennsylvania-based fly fishing guide service focused on multi-species and competitive fly fishing. Our mission is to help anglers get the most out of every day on the water, teaching proven fly fishing techniques for trout, musky, bass, and more. We want to provide truly new, innovative information and viewpoints that push people to fish better and fish differently. Innovative Angling offers guided trips, group clinics, instructional articles, videos, presentations, and virtual lessons to help anglers across the globe of all skill levels improve their fly fishing skills.
Mike Komara
Mike Komara’s fly fishing journey began at age eight when he received his first fly rod, sparking a lifelong passion for the sport. By his teens, he was competing on the US Youth Fly Fishing Team and went on to represent the U.S. in three World Youth Fly Fishing Championships, earning a team bronze medal in 2017 and team silver in 2019.
Mike continued honing his skills at Penn State, studying material engineering while running his original guide service and blog, Fringe Fly Fishing. He developed a passion on multi-species fly fishing, catching over 100 species worldwide and refining new techniques that make him a standout Pennsylvania fly fishing guide.
After returning to competition in 2021, Mike qualified for the U.S. Fly Fishing Team and earned a team bronze medal at the 2024 World Championships in France, followed by another team bronze at the 2025 Championships in the Czech Republic.
Today, Mike runs Innovative Angling full time, sharing his expertise via in-person instruction, articles, and visual media. He combines years of competitive fly fishing experience with a deep understanding of fish behavior to help anglers of all skill levels improve their technique and enjoy the sport to its fullest.
